All of my life I have
been interested in existence, here in this
universe, in the meaning of this existence.
Things, both animate and inanimate present
two sides of a coin simultaneously, I refer
to the opposites of fragility and strength,
meaning and utter meaningless, light and dark
either alone or in relation to each other.
As an artist when I work on creating my images,
I feel connected to all of this. The act of
putting lines on the surface of a copperplate
whether burnishing or srcaping, causes light
to appear out of darkness creating a new awareness
of aspects of these images.
It is while etching and especially developing
a mezzotint that I feel as if I am in a conversation
between my motifs, myself and the universe
which allows me, through the act of creating
my art, to constantly be in touch with what
existence truly is.
